Artificial Intelligence Algorithms on the Cloud
Use Google Tech on Google Scale.
Have you ever read an article about Artificial Intelligence that spoke of the wonders of Deep Learning, only to say that you can't run these models on your laptop?
Do you ever feel that you need to use Artificial Intelligence at work to drive revenue and compete in a modern world, but you don't know how to use it effectively?
Are you a developer who wants to be able to say "Yes" when your boss asks if you can build a strong advertising model that meets your company's data in the Cloud?
I used to think deep learning was not a worthwhile way to make real progress on business problems. I had seen the news stories that deep learning algorithms are behind the recent 30% improvement in speech recognition models and that neural models are now being used by Facebook to display posts in your news feed and target Facebook ads. But I wasn't Google or Facebook. I had always used common algorithms (boosted decision tree libraries and machine learning libraries like sci-kit learn) with fantastic results. I could test and run these on my laptop.
But then, a deep learning paper was brought to my attention by the project manager of a successful mobile app that required massive computing power. The paper did real-time style transfer on videos - it could take Van Gogh's Starry Night and a video of your kid playing baseball and make the video look like a moving (literally), and beautifully stylized painting. While building the video prototype for this project proposal, I replicated the paper's results on Amazon Web Services (using a p2.xlarge GPU instance), making a repeatable deep learning setup that just works. The complete ease and simplicity of the setup inspired me to go further and show the exact steps to an enthusiastic attendee at my deep learning conference, who is not even a software developer, but a manager at a Pharmaceutical industry. After this experience, I felt compelled to turn this into a course.
Inside this course is the simplest setup, hands-down, to run deep learning models that you can actually understand, interpret, and run on huge data centers from your laptop. I have recorded videos for every step and completely organized them here for you today to get up and running with deep learning on the cloud today.
Don't hesitate to get started right away and run an algorithm on a cloud GPU yourself. You have to see the speedup to believe it - the cloud is much, much faster than your laptop.
Congratulations on checking out this exciting deep learning resource, and I'll see you inside the course.
Sam has given small talks to audiences at Amazon and MIT on artificial intelligence. Sam holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with Honors from the University of Vermont.
